What Is Future Self Meditation?

During any given meditation session, we’re grounding ourselves in the present moment in order to release current stresses and worries. It’s all in an effort to access inner peace and gain much-needed perspective from within rather than without.

But sometimes we don’t get the tranquillity and balance we’re craving, and this is when future self meditation can be a powerful tool for transformation. This technique actually creates a link with a future version of yourself that has already overcome some of today’s most stressful challenges. Think of it as a way to communicate across time, with the intent being to gain clarity and inspiration for the goals and joys that await you.

Sound powerful? It is, but there are a few things you’ll need to know to effectively meditate with your future self in mind.

Introducing Yourself to… You!

A person’s future self is considered their most evolved being. It’s who we’re destined to be in this life—our fully formed soul that has collected enough knowledge and experience to counsel us here in the present.

If you’ve practiced manifestation, you’re already partially familiar with some aspects of future self meditation. Both techniques visualize what lies ahead and propel us toward an ultimate realization of our dreams. However, future self meditation is about reverse engineering your goals rather than drawing them out of the universe. Your future self is already living the life you’ve been envisioning, and you can access them as a kind of spirit guide or guardian angel to be called upon in times of crisis.

Following Your Intuition to Your Future Self

To successfully engage in future self meditation, it’s important to go about it intuitively. Intuition stems from the innate wisdom that’s passed down through generations of ancestors whose spirits live on in you. As such, it’s an eternal conduit you’ll always share with Older You, and if you open it through future self meditation, they can help you find your way to where they already are. How beautiful is that? We support ourselves in mysterious ways.

Tips for Meditating on the Future

Unlike techniques such ass transcendental meditation, future self meditation is less of a “blank slate” approach and more of a conversation you achieve through clarity of mind. Think of it as cleaning a window to the future rather than stilling the waters of a lake. I recommend following a few key steps to maximize your potential for spiritual growth.

Set the Scene for Self-actualization

Mindful meditation is a great everyday outlet for our intuition, but that doesn’t mean it should be a casual process! The environment you choose matters. Set yourself up for a positive meditation from the get-go.

Any form of meditation requires a calm, quiet space to inhabit where you can relax, close your eyes, and adjust your posture to a comfortable position. This will allow you to clear your mind and steady your breathing before you start.

Then, conduct an emotional inventory to begin the meditation. What’s troubling you or causing you to be hesitant or stuck right now? What are you hoping to learn from future self meditation? Are you ready to look upon yourself with sharpened senses, trusting eyes, and discerning ears? It may take some patience to figure out your responses here, and that’s OK!

Project Yourself into That Time

Once you’ve thought about the “why” of your meditation, begin centering those thoughts on a visualization that brings your future self into focus. Imagine walking up to yourself, or staring into a mirror and shaking hands through the glass.

Picture what your life will look like in 20, 30, or even 40 years. See the people in it, including family and friends. Envision your career or livelihood, lifestyle, home, and physical appearance. Bring your accomplishments and possible failures into focus. From the warmth of your loved ones to your most private beliefs about your life, who is your future self? As you evolve a clear picture, open yourself up to what they have to say.

Future self meditation involves intuiting what will be by filling in the gaps to form a complete picture. Ultimately, you possess the skill and insight to do this as someone who has natural-born intuition. If you’re predisposed to strong intuitive signals, this might be easier for you than it is for others.

Be Sure to Ask the Important Questions

A major takeaway of future self meditation is the clarity and perspective it offers when we aren’t feeling so confident about the current state of our lives. It provides the reassuring energy we crave by allowing us to connect with a version of ourselves that already knows the way.

Just as we intuitively opt for a certain tarot card in the deck, our decisions are informed by a divine universal wisdom. It’s a comfort to acknowledge that everything you’re doing now is validated by that invisible encouragement outside of conventional time.

And above all else, your future self wants to empower you to find the fulfilling life it knows you can attain. This meditation is about absorbing information from the hereafter and letting it lead you accordingly.

So ask your future self in this star-crossed meeting of the minds: What should I know now to welcome this future? They may even suggest reflecting backward into the past to manifest your future. That message says a lot about you and what you must do going forward.

Meditate to Intuit What’s to Come

Future self meditation is an incredible tool to consistently manifest your dream life. It gives us the opportunity to truly tap into our intuitive abilities and commune with the most authentic and available source of all: ourselves!

This practice is so rewarding, bringing unexpected abundance as we continue to realize that future self. I hope this has been a beneficial introduction so that you can try it on your own now.

And remember, you’re not alone in this! I’m here for you and all of your questions, big or small, as you navigate the wild and wonderful world of intuitive studies. Wishing you peace and light. Happy meditating, and say “Hello” to your future self for me!
