Can I Change My Soul’s Purpose?

Ever since humans first became acquainted with the concept of the soul, we’ve wondered about changing our individual soul’s purpose. After all, having the freedom and agency to live your life as you see fit sounds a lot more appealing than putting your faith in the destiny written for you long before you were born!

The idea of trusting our fate is a little scary, even counterintuitive to how we normally think and feel. We fundamentally want to write our own destiny—it’s a natural urge. Having the autonomy to do so is an important component of many belief systems.

For those asking, “Can I change my soul’s purpose?” the short answer is… “Yes!” However, redirecting the path you’re on isn’t as easy as turning the steering wheel. You have to develop your intuitive skills and make difficult choices with a healthy dose of self-awareness. Also, you should take the time to thoroughly understand your soul’s purpose and what the universe has in store for you before you do any editing yourself.

Communicating with Your Soul

There’s nothing wrong with considering whether or not your soul’s purpose is set in stone. Maybe you’ve been going through an identity crisis, or you’re struggling to connect with your spirit guide during a hardship. Whatever the case, good communication with your innermost self could shed light on what makes you tick and, subsequently, what you can expect going forward.

The direction you’re heading depends heavily on your context as an intuitive being on this earth—religiously, spiritually, psychologically, philosophically, socially, etc. As we live and learn, our calling becomes clearer, but what if, for instance, your soul’s purpose suddenly doesn’t resonate with you? That would be a jarring and uncomfortable reality to inhabit.

If your life isn’t feeling authentic to who you truly are, then it might be time to reevaluate things. It is possible to change your soul’s purpose, but it’s not easy—and after putting in the work you may realize that you’ve been on the right path the whole time!

While it’s tempting to grab the wheel the second things feel off in your life, your driver is actually much more equipped for this trip than you realize. Your soul is your higher self, and the one who’s traveled lifetimes upon lifetimes to this point. Questioning the purpose of this infinitely old and wise spirit is often like trying to catch water in your hands: no matter what you do, it still slips through your fingers.

Remember, we’re each the incarnation of a universal power beyond our comprehension; that depth within every intuitive soul steers us accordingly.

Determinism vs. Free Will

There are two prevailing theories about our place in the world: determinism and free will. These polar opposites argue that our destinies are either predetermined and therefore immune to our interference (determinism) or that our destinies are up to us and therefore malleable in our hands (free will). People typically fall into one of these two camps based on their personal perspectives.

This binary opposition is like the debate over whether intuition is an innate gift or a skill to be developed! (My take on that topic is similar to my take here, but I’ll get to that.)

When it comes to altering the path your soul seeks in this life, individuals who possess especially intuitive personalities or supernatural abilities have an edge. Since changing your purpose on a soul level is such an intense and time-consuming process, it’s wise to have a firm grasp on what you do want for yourself, plus the energy, experience, and endurance to pursue that goal beyond mere manifestation.

If you’re ready to embrace the unknown, I encourage you to commit wholeheartedly to this reassignment, of sorts. In fact, I recommend starting with a soul reading to fully explore your potential before embarking on this journey. Be sure you’ve reflected inward on this endeavor and feel confident in your choice.

My Personal Perspective

My two cents? I believe in the third, less polarizing theory of compatibilism, which maintains that it’s not just determinism or free will, but determinism and free will that shape my soul’s purpose. We’re all part of a bigger story being told, and while the universe authors this story, we’re definitely capable of controlling our fate as the pages turn. We can, in fact, change our purpose within that boundless space.

There are tangible steps to follow within this framework. For instance, say you’re being drawn to a new career after years spent in a specific industry—you’re looking to help others in a different role that will completely turn your life on its head, and it’s causing you to pivot in the middle of the road. Don’t ignore that instinct! It could even be your soul reaching out to you, gently suggesting that you reroute for the better.

Of course, you also shouldn’t just impulsively follow that instinct. Engage with every intuitive technique you have at your disposal to explore where it’s coming from and what it could mean for you. This should be a deeply reflective process that’s rewarding no matter what answer you eventually arrive at.

Collaborating with Your Soul

As a seasoned Master Intuitive Reader, I know my soul’s purpose—do you know yours? Intuition leads you there, and by furthering your ability to understand yourself and your soul’s purpose, then and only then can you really see what needs changing and what needs collaborating

The trajectory your spirit is tracing across this life is beautiful because it’s yours. Hold onto how special that is. Your intuition is your soul’s collaboration with yourself: listen to your heart and you’ll see your true purpose.

And if you’re searching for more guidance as you navigate a potential shift in this purpose, I’m here to help! For everyday support and insights, my website is rich with so many life-affirming resources to find your purpose and love living it.
