As an entrepreneur, recovering perfectionist, and mom of three, I’ve experienced my fair share of burnout. In today’s world, we are constantly getting messages that tell us to “just push harder!” and “wake up and work at 4am, seven days a week if you really want it!”. It’s no wonder so many entrepreneurs suffer from stress, anxiety, and just pure exhaustion.

At the risk of sounding like a cheesy infomercial, what if I told you there is a better way? Entrepreneurship doesn’t come without hard work, there is no denying that, BUT you don’t have to sacrifice your sanity or health to be successful.

Here are my three best tips for avoiding entrepreneurship burnout:

Take Care of Yourself First

The key word here is first. Not “after you finish that big project next month” or if you “have time” at the end of a 12-hour work day. You are the top priority. It’s like they tell you on an airplane, “you have to put your oxygen mask on first before helping others”. It's not selfish, I promise. We aren’t doing ourselves (or anyone else) any favors by waiting until we are physically and mentally ill before taking time for ourselves. So meditate, exercise, take a nap, make a healthy dinner, whatever it is you need to do to take care of yourself every day.

Do What You Love and Outsource The Rest

I am huge on this because I think we all should be playing to our strengths. If you love creating youtube videos for your business but hate editing them because it takes you five hours, outsource it. It’s easier to burn out on tasks that we hate because a) they naturally take us longer and b) we tend to hold a lot of negative energy around them. Negative energy feels more draining than positive energy obviously, so try to spend most of the day doing what you truly enjoy. I know outsourcing may seem like a luxury but you’d be surprised how many affordable options there are these days on websites like Fiverr and Upwork.

Focus On The Task in Front of You

Sometimes we feel burnt out before we’ve even started our day because we get so overwhelmed thinking about everything we have to get done. Not to mention everything everyone on Instagram has already done, leaving us feeling like we are behind. Repeat after me, “I am exactly where I need to be.” Make this your morning mantra if you have to. I know this can be hard to believe when our to-do list is miles long, we are working crazy hours, and still haven’t hit our goal yet but you just have to have some faith. Just focus on the next task right in front of you and then repeat. It will all get done and you can do it.

Most of all remember that if you are starting to feel tired, rest but don’t give up. Too often entrepreneurship burnout leads to business owners throwing in the towel and I don't want to see that happen to you. The world needs your special gift so keep going!
