Using Sage for Energy Cleansing: 4 Easy Tips for Smudging

So, you're feeling a little off. You've just got done with an interaction that wasn't exactly what you'd hoped it would be. Maybe you fought with a boyfriend or a friend. Or perhaps Karen from work gave you the stink eye again after you spoke up in the meeting. You feel like your emotions are getting in the way of your daily life, you can't fall asleep as quickly as you once did, and you're stressed because Karen needs that proposal in an hour. What's a girl to do? Sage to the rescue!

The History & Benefits of Smudging

Burning sage, also known as smudging, is an ancient spiritual ritual. Its use has long been established by Native American tribes like the Lakota, Chumash, Cahuilla, among others and now, you're going to try it.

Smudging benefits include purifying, ridding yourself (and your space!) of negative energy, cleansing, improving your mood, de-stressing, and improving your sleep. (You're going to smudge Karen's desk now, aren't you?) It can also create an uplifting aroma that gets you out of those neggy vibes.

People love sage mostly for its energy cleansing. So when your energy feels off some sage can help you get through. Enhance your mood and clarify your aura. Not sure where to start. I've got you covered.

4 Simple Tips for Smudging

1. First things first, choose your sage. The right kind of sage can make all the difference, in my opinion. I'm a big fan of Alternative Imagination Premium California White Sage because they’re all-natural so you know they really work plus white sage is the stuff that gets in deep to rid you of that negative energy.

2. Take a deep clearing breath and talk with your guides to help you move through whatever you're currently stuck on. By doing this, you're setting an intention. You're saying  "Hey Universe (or whomever) I'm stuck on this thing, and I'd like some guidance." You're asking your guides to clear up your energy while working through your intention.

3. Light your sage. Reminder—sage is like incense, so it let's smoke out. Don't expect that thing to light up like a candle.

4. You're going to want to smudge your aura. What does that mean? You're going to move the sage around your body—head, hands, down your legs, and back. By moving or dancing while you do this, you're helping to push the negativity away. Think of it as dusting your aura.

That’s it! It’s as simple as that! Smudging doesn’t take much. Try it out and see how you feel afterwards.
